Why Choose Nate O’Grady?

Built on a Proper Base

Most turf problems start underneath. Compacted base material, correct slope, and proper drainage are what keep the surface flat, draining, and lasting. Your site gets the prep work done right before a single roll goes down.

Natural-Looking, Not Plasticky

Today’s turf products vary widely. We pick a blend of pile heights, colors, and thatch that reads as real grass from the road, the deck, and up close, not like a putt-putt course.

Northern Michigan Installation Standards

Freeze-thaw cycles, heavy snow, and spring runoff are hard on poorly installed turf. Seams, edges, and drainage are all specified for our climate, not a southern one.

Commercial Properties

Courtyards, entryways, rental grounds, and public spaces that need to stay green without a daily maintenance presence. Heavy foot traffic is part of the spec, not a surprise later.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does synthetic turf hold up in Northern Michigan winters?

Yes. Quality turf is freeze-thaw stable and handles snow and ice without damage. Once the snow melts off in spring, the surface is ready to use—no mud, no dead patches, no reseeding.

Can you plow or shovel snow off synthetic turf?

Yes, with the right technique. Plastic-edged shovels and plowing with skids raised are fine. We go over care specifics with you before the project wraps.

How long does synthetic turf last?

A well-installed, quality turf product typically lasts 15 to 20 years. Lifespan depends more on the base work and the traffic it sees than on the turf itself.

Does it drain well in heavy rain or after snowmelt?

Yes, if the base is built for it. Proper turf installation includes a permeable base and drainage plan so water moves through the system instead of pooling on top.

Is synthetic turf safe for pets?

Yes. Pet-specific turf systems use drainage layers and antimicrobial infill that flush urine through and keep odors down. Solid waste picks up like it would on natural grass.

Will it look fake?

Not with the products we use. Modern turf comes in a range of pile heights, colors, and textures. We choose a blend that suits your property so it reads as a real lawn.

How hot does it get in summer?

Synthetic turf runs warmer than natural grass on hot sunny days. For pool surrounds, play areas, or pet runs that get full afternoon sun, we recommend cooling infills and shaded layouts.

Do you offer putting greens?

Yes. We build custom backyard putting greens with proper contours, cup placement, and fringe so the surface plays well and lasts.

What does maintenance look like?

Light and occasional. Brush up the pile once or twice a year, rinse off dust or pollen as needed, and pick up debris. No mowing, watering, fertilizing, or reseeding.

Do you provide free estimates?

Yes. We come out, look at the site, talk through what you want, and send a detailed proposal at no charge.
